White fox is the messenger of an Inari god who represents wealth, fecundity, rice and sake. Inari god is one of the most popular gods in Japan. You will find Inari shrine everywhere, sometimes by itself and sometimes as a subsidiary shrine in a Jinja for other gods. This Inari shrine is in Goryo Jinja, that is dedicated to Mr. Gongoro-Kagemasa Kamakura, who was a brave samurai and a pioneer load of Kamakura in the 11th century. Kamakura is named after him.
